October 2015 through present – User Experience Designer

Oversee user experience, user interface and product design for a variety of teams creating enterprise Electronic Medical Record software applications. Areas of focus range from Inpatient clinical tools to mobile clinical platforms, patient access, scheduling and logistics tools to core system-level patterns. As one of a small team of designers at a large company, responsibilities include everything from user centered design education to communication design regarding new products. Led multiple strategic initiatives to unify and clarify the interface across multiple teams. Manage four direct reports of various experience levels, while working with other designer managers to improve company culture and outlook towards design. Frequently present and educate teams of up to ~2000 on usability topics. August 2007 through January 2016 – Co-Owner / Creative Director

Built a company from the ground up, focused on creating unique designs paired with intuitive experiences. Created 100s of sites for 100s of clients ranging from celebrity web portals (Margaret Cho) to non-profits (dublab, SASSAS) to corporations (Dry Coolers, Hudson Pacific Properties, CineCert) and creative professionals (Screen Novelties, Sara Gazarek, Dewey Nicks, Andrew Southam). As the visual designer for all work produced: worked closely with clients to exceed their mental pictures. As lead back-end developer for WordPress and Drupal based sites: assessed how to leverage existing platform functionality to create a customized experience in addition to creating custom PHP, Javascript, HTML/CSS functionality and integrations for site from scratch. As the user experience designer and information architect for all interactive projects: created site maps, user flows and personas for sufficiently budgeted projects. Worked directly with clients from initial sales conversations through final delivery. Developed in-house workflows to allow for highest degree of creative output, while maintaining budget and timeline concerns.

Dry Coolers, Inc

June 2012 through September 2015 – International Consultant / Supervisor / Interim General Manager

Assisted long-term client in transition from a medium-sized domestic manufacturing company to opening a joint-venture based in China. Oversaw initial negotiations between partners and outlined partnership language. As negotiations progressed, researched the challenges of a China-based business and provided research to executives. As company was established served as the General Manager, liaised with government contacts, created company intranet, communications practices, laid groundwork for factory operations, designed all marketing materials (digital and print). Found candidates, interviewed and hired permanent General Manager. Continue to serve as Supervisor, main duty to liaise between the Board of Directors and General Manager.

ODVD

June 2004 through July 2007 – Creative Director

Led all branding and design decisions for a series of DVD trivia games (Shout About…). Managed team of five production artists. Produced wireframes, animatics and initial art for new designs and motion graphic schemes. Developed new gameplay and properties for the company. Worked with partner companies (Gracie Films, Trivial Pursuit) to create art that was fresh but within brand guidelines. Responsible for creating schedules for production and developing workflows to ensure timelines were met. Oversaw prototyping, user testing and iterative product design based on user feedback.
